It’s official. Your experience at Mars is about to get a whole lot sexier (should you so choose). An option to book a Fashion shoot is now on the website. It isn’t every day that you can have your hair done AND get images snapped by a professional photographer — unless you’re a professional model.

Ok, so you just got your hair all Mars-ified. You’re looking amazing, and you want to do more than just step into the photo booth for a quickie. (A photo you dirty birds) Why don’t ya’ step it up a level and set up an actual photo shoot with our team of talented stylists? Our resident photographer/owner/hairstylist Jake Gravbrot will operate the camera equipment and one of our stylists will spruce up your hair and makeup. From there, we’ll venture out, into our neighborhood or another, for a fashion shoot that will blow your mind. More than just photos for your Facebook profile, these high resolution images will hold a place in your portfolio forever.

So much excitement at Mars.

In a small amount of time, Mars went from 2 stylists to 6. Bringing the right group of people in has been the goal, but there was never a timeline placed on when those people would “need” to be here by. You can’t rush perfection, as anyone in the hair or art industry knows.

So, for the past few weeks, there have been bodies in the salon. Lots of them. Literally, everything has changed. With these new stylists, has come new clients. Many new people are experiencing the salon for the first time and it is a very exciting time.

So, what better time than now to announce a few new items for the soon to be month of August?
Starting now, until the end of August, any new color service that books with Taryn or Dani will receive a $40 gift certificate to Seattle Ink & Oil’s owner Justin Johnson for custom tattoo work. If you’ve been to the salon, you’ve undoubtedly seen Justin’s art hanging on the walls, as he has shown two separate times here. His work also covers the body of owner Jake Gravbrot, so if you’re a client of his, you’ve been accustomed to seeing Justin’s talented handiwork in action. The guy oozes talent, which makes this deal quite complimentary, since Taryn and Dani ooze talent as well.

Second on the news items, is a new service that will be offered at Mars, by another new stylist. Catherine “Crash” Hackney will very soon be offering straight razor shaves for guys. This is a high-demand type of service, being offered very minimally in Seattle. It’s a bit of a “lost art” if you will, so to have one of our talented stylists offering this is really exciting. She’s got some deals up her sleeves, but be ready to spread the word, because this service is something that guys constantly ask for, but don’t usually get a great answer to, in regards to their question.

Introducing, Taryn.

The interior of the salon has a two tonal color scheme. Red and blonde. It only seems fitting that our newest addition, color specialist Taryn lists her two favorite colors to create as both red and blonde. Trained through Gene Juarez’ meticulous and extensive Advanced Training School for 7 months, prior to her placement at the Lynnwood salon, Taryn crafts the most catered colors to meet her clients desires. Her consultations focus on accentuating features, skin tones, & makeup palettes of her clients. Taryn finds inspiration through her clients, fashion, music, and art, and she translates her passions directly into the services that she provides. Of all the color services that she offers, she is currently enjoying Balayage and Ombre the most, due to their fashion forward nature and subtle grow out. If you’re in the market for some of the most stunning shades that Seattle has to offer, Taryn can take you and your hair exactly where it needs to be.

As many of you know, at Gene Juarez, you are only allowed to focus on one aspect of hair. Design (Cutting) or Technical (Coloring/Chemical Services). At Mars, we don’t feel that you should have to limit your creativity by working only on one part of your client’s needs. Taryn has expressed a desire to add cutting back into her bag of tricks, and at Mars she will absolutely be allowed to grow into the hairstylist she desires to become.

On August 18th, multiple stylists from Mars Hair will be at an event put on by one of Dani’s clients at The Showbox. We’ll be out styling hair at the show and partying it up for a good cause! Read on & click the link for all the details.

There have been multiple Billy Idol aid events in past that have brought thousands of dollars in for charity for places such as Northwest Harvest and American Red Cross. And all of this happened because Michael has pushed for it and put his heart in it. I got to be a part of Billy Idol Aid 3 back in November 2011. And let me tell you it was a blast! I did 80′s hair makeovers and the energy there was crazy and awesome! There were over 900 people that showed up for this event who partied it up for charity and for the sake of maybe having Billy Idol come up and play for it.

There’s no “I” in team.

It’s been no secret that Mars Hair has been looking to add talent. If you’ve been following along via our Twitter, Facebook, or just plain listening to a conversation in the salon, it’s been known that I’ve been looking for the right kind of stylists to work at Mars. I’ve worked in enough new salons to know that those who start at the very beginning are rarely there after the first few years. It takes a bit to get the right fit of stylists, so it’s to be expected that turnover happens. I dealt with a lot of unfortunate circumstances in the first 15 months of business re: stylists, but I now feel that the right team of personalities and talent is set to begin.

With Dani, Darla, Catherine and Taryn just starting at Mars, this feels like the time to really start filtering new clients towards the newer talent that is set to take Mars to the next level. In my career, I’ve worked very hard to build my own client base and it feels like it’s at a comfortable point where I will start requesting that new clients be referred towards the other stylists at the salon. Mars was always meant to be a collective of talented hairstylist that together represent the namesake. If I’m at a point where I can sacrifice taking new clients, in order to help keep others busy and satisfied, then I want to do that, for the better of the business. Having the opportunity to do this makes me incredibly proud. I opened Mars so that others could succeed and work in an environment that would help their careers grow, while continually being inspired and uplifted.

So, if there’s a request that I have of you, the readers of this blog and clients of ours at Mars, it’s to help push our name out there into the community. We will continue to keep doing the best hair that we can possibly do, while engaging directly with you continually via our internet outlets. If you’ve got friends who are inquiring about where to go to get their hair done, send them our way. If you’re a Yelper and wish to write a pleasant review of us, we absolutely welcome it. All of these things help to build the name and reputation of the salon, and from that, it can help to build the business of stylists.
